This past weekend

This past weekend spring seemed to be bursting out all over here in Edmonton, with sunshine and flowers and celebrations of all sorts.

On Saturday, we donned our flower crowns and danced around the Maypole during the Mayfair celebration at our little Waldorf school. I know, I know, May Day is technically May 1st, but four weeks ago there wasn't so much as a blade of grass growing here in Alberta. Now we have grass and dandelions, but even dandelions can be beautiful if you look at them the right way. And if you have a field with about a million of them!

Then Sunday evening we headed down to the Alberta Legislature to walk beneath the apple blossoms and dip our toes in the reflecting pools. I can't believe I've lived in Edmonton for four years and never visited the grounds during apple blossom season. It is by far one of the loveliest places in the city--made all the moreso because it is virtually deserted, save for an ice cream vender or two and a few old men playing bocce ball.

All in all, we soaked up every ounce of sunshine the weekend had to offer. It was so achingly beautiful it almost made up for the past nine months of winter ... almost.

I've always lived dandelions. To me, they're sort of magical.
