Apples and Bananas

Because Colin is in daycare 40 hours a week, it often means that we're learning about his habits, preferences, and development from the daycare workers. "Oh, Colin started saying some new words today," they'll say. Or, "Did you know that Colin really likes salsa music?" Sometimes, though, it means that Colin develops one set of habits and preferences for daycare and another for home--and that he is the only one who knows it.

Just last week when I was picking Colin up, one of the daycare workers came over to boast that he had finally tasted banana earlier that day. "Bananas? But Colin loves bananas," I said. "He eats at least one every day. Sometimes two or three. I just wish we could get him to branch out into other fruits, like apples."

"Really?!" she said, "But Colin loves apples. He eats them every day here." At which point we both turned to Colin in astonishment, and he just smiled at us with his most impish grin.

Its great that you have a daycare that communicate so much with you.
